Why basketball players wear grip socks
Basketball shoes are engineered to grip hardwood. Nobody engineers the inside. So your shoe stops dead on a jump stop and your foot keeps going, sliding forward into the toe box. On a hard crossover the foot rolls sideways in the shoe before the shoe has even started to move. That gap between foot and shoe is where your first step goes.
LUX® grip socks close that gap. Dual Grip™ technology puts grip pads inside the sock to hold your foot and outside the sock to hold the shoe. The shoe stops, the foot stops with it, and the next push-off starts from a planted position instead of a sliding one.
Calf length is the basketball fit. It sits under or in place of a standard court sock and fits any high-top or low. GripArray is the lower-profile option if you like a thinner sole feel in the shoe.
The same Dual Grip™ sole has sold over 1 million pairs in cleat sports, where the movement demands are the same: plant, cut, go. Tested to 100+ match washes. 100-day guarantee.
Which LUX sock for basketball?
Basketball grip socks: your questions
Do grip socks work for basketball?
Yes. Basketball is stops, cuts and first steps, and all three load your foot against the inside of the shoe. Dual Grip™ pads hold the foot to the sock and the sock to the shoe, so the foot stops when the shoe does instead of sliding into the toe box.
Can you wear grip socks with basketball shoes?
Any basketball shoe, high-top or low. Grip socks are cut like a normal calf sock with grip pads on the sole, so they fit inside the shoe the same way. Some players size their shoe the same as always; others go down a half size because the foot no longer slides forward.
Do you wear grip socks over normal socks for basketball?
Wear them instead of your normal sock, directly against your skin. The inner grip pads need skin contact to hold the foot. Layering a sock underneath defeats the point.
Do grip socks stop your foot sliding forward on a jump stop?
That's the main thing they do. On a jump stop the shoe grips the floor and your foot wants to keep travelling. Grip pads on both sides of the sock hold the foot with the shoe. You'll feel it on the first hard stop.
What length grip sock for basketball?
Calf. It covers the ankle inside a high-top and sits neatly in a low. Knee length is a cleat-sport thing and isn't needed on a court.
Do grip socks work on indoor hardwood and outdoor courts?
The grip is inside the shoe, between foot and insole, so the court surface doesn't change what it does. Hardwood, rubber, outdoor asphalt, it's the same job inside the shoe.
How long do basketball grip socks last?
